If you’re like me and you only got your ears pierced once (at Claire’s at the mall when you were 6), then picking out which one pair of earrings to wear each day is pretty mundane. For some people, one earring is enough, but for others, that’s so boring! And choosing one pair is honestly such a hard decision to make when so many cute earrings exist in the world.

Which is why I got all too excited when I stumbled upon an interview on Refinery 29 with L.A.-based piercer Brian Keith Thompson about this ear piercing trend inspired by constellations. Much like star patterns, the piercings are made in groups of three or more on the earlobe or cartilage and then worn with dainty earrings or studs.

“Right now, I am really into doing something big paired with something dainty,” Thompson explained. “Like a planet and a couple of moons.”

Although not exactly new, this particular style of piercing (whether done intentionally or as a way to fix a wonky, off-center piercing by adding a few others) is really catching on right now because it’s so freaking cool.

Maybe it’s time I rethink my lone piercing…
