Five years since Gossip Girl wrapped, Blake Lively has been gracing screens in movies, Leighton Meester has been making sitcom dreams come true with her marriage to Adam Brody, and Ed Westwick has been freaking everyone out with his British accent in White Gold. But where has Lonely Boy, Penn Badgley, been lurking? He's finally back from his five-year acting hiatus as the leading man in the new show You.
In a character suspiciously similar to the (*spoiler alert*) scheming, super blogger Dan Humphrey, Penn will play a man who utilizes the internet to get close to the object of his affection. Sound familiar?
The show is based on Caroline Kepnes's novel of the same name, and, according to Entertainment Weekly:
[You] is a 21st-century love story about an obsessive, yet brilliant bookstore manager named Joe Goldberg (Badgley), who uses the hyper-connectivity of today's technology to make the woman of his dreams, an aspiring writer named Beck, fall in love with him.
His love interest, Beck, is yet to be cast, but if they are looking for a willowy and charming blonde for the role, may I suggest one Blake Lively?
The 10-part show, set to come out next April, is sure to be the perfect opportunity for Penn to flex some more serious acting muscles in a show much darker than his previous one.
