It's very rare that a something you use almost every day – like a hairdryer – gets totally reimagined. But that, we were promised, is what the Dyson team have done with the Dyson Supersonic.
“Hair dryers can be heavy, inefficient and make a racket. By looking at them further we realised that they can also cause extreme heat damage to hair. I challenged Dyson engineers to really understand the science of hair and develop our version of a hair dryer, which we think solves these problems” – James Dyson
So, we decided to put it to the test!
Three members of Team Cosmo, three very different hair types, one Dyson Supersonic. Let's go!
Lucy, Group Fashion and Beauty Director
“I am so impressed! It was quick, quiet and really easy to handle.”
Hair type: Shoulder length, lots of fine hair
Time it usually takes to dry your hair: 8 minutes
Time it took with the Dyson Supersonic: 3 minutes and 53 seconds
What was your hair like after using the Dyson Supersonic? Good! I used the Styling Concentrator attachment, which made my hair feel super soft and look really shiny, extra impressive, because I had no product in it.
Would you use it again? 100%, absolutely!
Farah, Digital Editor
“At just 659g it is super light-weight and so easy to manoeuvre. I loved being able to switch between the four-heat settings, and finish off with a blast of cold air for extra shine.”
Hair type: Medium length but very, very fine
Time it usually takes to dry your hair: About 5 minutes
Time it took with the Dyson Supersonic: 3 minutes and 15 seconds
What was your hair like after using the Dyson Supersonic? I only used the Smoothing Nozzle, and my hair dried salon sleek and very straight.
Would you use it again? Absolutely. Granted, my morning hair-drying time isn't the longest, but being able to cut that time in half is a pretty unbelievable outcome.
Nimra, Editorial Assistant
“The sleek design is amazing. It’s lightweight and has various heat settings that are great as for someone with really curly and dry hair, like me. I need the highest amount of heat!”
Hair type: Dry, a little damaged and frizzy
Time it usually takes to dry your hair: 15 minutes
Time it took with the Dyson Supersonic: 6 minutes and 50 seconds
What was your hair like after using the Dyson Supersonic: It was considerably smoother and less frizzy. Plus it took half the time to get it straight, thanks to using a combination of the Diffuser and the Smoothing Nozzle, which is great for everyday use.
Would you use it again? Definitely, it was easy to use and gave me hair that I could leave the house with, which is exactly what I look for in a hairdryer.
