Demi took to Instagram on Wednesday to celebrate 60 months of being sober and free of her addictions. In her post, the 24-year-old admits the tough journey she went through in order to get to this point saying, "So many ups and downs. So many times I wanted to relapse but sat on my hands and begged God to relieve the obsession".
Since she was diagnosed in 2011 with bipolar disorder, the Stone Cold singer has been very vocal on seeking help for her addictions and eating disorder.
In 2016, the singer revealed to Refinery29 that she couldn't spend her teenage years partying just like everyone else: I had to learn the hard way that I can't do parties anymore," she admitted to the website. "Some people can go out and not be triggered, but that's not the case for me."
So grateful. It's been quite the journey. So many ups and downs. So many times I wanted to relapse but sat on my hands and begged God to relieve the obsession. I'm so proud of myself but I couldn't have done it without my higher power (God), my family, friends, and everyone else who supported me. Feeling humbled and joyful today. Thank you guys for sticking by my side and believing in me.
Demi dedicates the end of her post to thank her loyal Lovatics for sticking by her side, '' Thank you guys for sticking by my side and believing in me''.
