University starts next month and with it comes the stress of juggling classes, assignments, extracurricular activities, jobs, etc. It's easy to get overwhelmed and you may start to feel like there are not enough hours in the day to get things done. We've rounded up some easy ways to feel better and to kill stress before it gets to you!
1. And Breathe
Stop watching TV or Netflix and get moving. Try some yoga, meditation, or tai-chi and turn your negative energy into something positive. It has been proven that these exercises have great health benefits like increased flexibility, improved breathing and a toned body. Sign-up for yoga or tai-chi classes with your friends to learn from a professional. Or if leaving the house in 50 degree weather bogs you down, just follow a tutorial on YouTube and BREATHE!
2. Stop Bingeing On Bad Stuff
Just because you're stressed doesn't mean doing bad stuff will make you feel better. In the long run, you'll actually end up feeling awful inside-out. Stuff like smoking or binge eating can affect your health and most imporatntly, make you feel totally gross. Studies show that cigarettes contain nicotine which acts as a stimulant and actually makes you feel more stressed out. Also, it makes you smell bad. EWWWW!
3. Endorphins, Gurllll
If you want to feel good, there's nothing better than a workout to get those endorphins pumping. Yeah, it takes motivation to do some cardio, but you'll feel awesome when you're done. Running, swimming, cycling, etc. have been proven to help your body relieve stress and make you feel more positive.
4. Edit Your Life
Prioritise, prioritise, prioritise! It's not that hard. Just pick the most important stuff and forget about the rest. If you feel you don't have enough time, you might have to drop out of a few extracurricular activities. Time management plays a major role here. You need to pace yourself and take some ‘me time’.
5. Set Realistic Goals
Go easy on yourself. We know you want to be a super star but if you push yourself too hard, you'll only end up running yourself down. Yeah, you want the world to sit up and take notice and there's a ton of pressure, but take it slow and easy. If you try to do everything all at once, you'll be exhausted.
