As someone who’s never tried Thai cuisine before (don't @ me), to say I was excited to hit up Fuchsia Urban Thai in Dubai would be a massive understatement. Before I made my reservation, I did some research, and discovered the restaurant's vibe is all about striking the balance between traditional and contemporary Thai. Good to know.
Inside, the venue is decorated with quirky quotes, funky lighting and a mix of cultural symbols, and I have decided it's an ideal spot for a romantic dinner or chilled meal with the girls.
I began my culinary Thai journey with a plate of crunchy fried calamari, served with a spicy peanut dip. Warning: when they say spicy, they mean spicy. That said, I loved every mouthful.
I also sampled their prawn dim sum. These little bundles of joy were so succulent and full of flavour, it was no surprise they vanished in a matter of seconds. I also tasted the spicy cashew chicken, which came doused in a moreish, nutty sauce.
For mains, meat-lovers, vegetarians and vegans will be satisfied. Seriously! I tried the vegan Thai Green Curry with the spice level at 'medium', and the dish arrived starring tofu, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, broccolini and sweet basil, plus soft Jasmine Rice. Before you ask, yes, I inhaled it.
Pad Thai is considered one of the staples of Thai cuisine, and that dish was exactly what was next on my agenda. The Pad Thai with prawn was totally delicious: the union of stir fried rice noodles, bean sprouts, egg, ground peanuts and juicy prawns was simply everything. So far, so impressive.
All good things come to an end, and this was a very sweet ending indeed. I was served fluffy, buttermilk coconut pancakes topped with subtle lemongrass butter. And I washed it all down with a refreshing passionfruit tea. Delightful.
All that's left to say is Fuchsia Urban Thai, thank you. And I will be back.
