Would you believe me if I told you that Friends is one of my all-time fave shows and I'm Gen Z. A lot of people never seem to understand why I love friends so much. They’re all like “it’s not your generation” or “really YOU like Friends?”.
Contrary to popular belief, us Gen Z kids do in fact know who Ross, Rachel, Chandler Monica, Joey and Phoebe are! *I KNOW shocker*. I think it’s incredible that a show that aired 25 years ago, is still being viewed in 2019 and that a new generation gets to experience its awesomeness! We may not have been around the first, second or third time Ross got married or when Joey had to speak French but we do get to be around for it now, as will generations to come. Other than making me laugh till I cry, there's some amazing lessons to be learned from the awesome six. Here are my top 3:
1. They’ll literally be there for you
“I'll be there for you
(Like I've been there before)
I'll be there for you
('Cause you're there for me too)”
Just like the iconic theme song states, your friends will always be there for you just like you’re there for them. Your friends will be there for you through thick or thin, on the good and bad days and will always be there to catch you if fall. Those friends who no matter near or far will be there for me, the ones who will love me despite my flaws, my no-matter-what people. Ross, Rachel, Joey, Phoebe, Chandler and Monica are family and seeing their bond stand the test of time and relationships and complicated love triangles, is amazing to watch.
2. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there
Hey, remember the time Phoebe proposed to Mike? Or the time Rachel got off her Paris bound flight to be with Ross? I’m not going to sugar coat the fact that taking risks is scary! I can attest to that, as much as I truly dislike stepping out of my comfort zone I still push myself to do so. Ever heard of the saying “In the end, we only regret the chances we didn’t take”, well it’s 100 per cent accurate. Don’t hold yourself back! Ask your crush out, tick something crazy off your bucket list. Live your life to the max, as cliché as it is … you’ve only got one life!
3. Be happy with being you
Embrace your quirks and love your flaws. All those little things that you always want to conceal or dislike, well that’s what makes you YOU. When we look at Friends we see a diverse groups of individuals who all own who they are! You’ve got Ross with his fossils, Monica and her cleaning, Joey and his food, Rachel with her fashion, Chandler with his sarcasm and well Pheebs was always marching to her own beat. So why can’t you?
