If you didn’t spend your entire childhood screeching all the words to ‘Hakuna Matata’ from the backseat of your parents’ car, did you even do the whole ‘kid’ thing, right? Disney's The Lion King literally shaped our childhoods and we're so grateful.
And since the Oscars happened, the first full-length trailer of The Lion King remake has dropped. Disclaimer, it’s just as amazing as we dreamed it would be.
We obsessed over the teaser trailer back in November last year and apparently, so did the rest of the world, because it became the most watched trailer in a day (with a record 224.6 million views in its first 24 hours). Nbd.
Now that we’ve got a better understanding of what to expect from the movie in this recently released clip, we can conclude that you will most definitely bawl your eyes out. Give it a watch if you haven’t seen it yet:
From what we can tell after watching the trailer about fifty times (an understatement), the live-action looks to be an exact copy of the 1994 animated classic, as it begins with the oh-so nostalgic scene set to the tune that is 'The Circle of Life' and Rafiki lifitng Simba over the Kingdom. Now, do you see what we meant about chills?
With stars such as Donald Glover (voices Simba), Keegan-Michael Key (voices Kamari), Seth Rogen (voices Pumbaa) and ofc, our fav diva, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter (voices Nala), the movie has already won us over. Directed by filmmaker Jon Favreau, who's also credited for creating the live-action remake of The Jungle Book, we're confident this will be another box office hit.
The Lion King will hit cinemas on July 19. If you say you're not excited, you're lion.
