Halsey Finally Confirmed That 'Without Me' Is About Her Ex G-Eazy

When Halsey released her emotion-wrecking "Without Me" after her split with G-Eazy, people assumed it was about their breakup. They were even more convinced when she hired his doppelgänger to play her love interest in the music video. Lo and behold, she finally confirmed it, opening up about why she released the song.

In an interview with Glamour, writer Michelle Lhooq described Halsey's thought process:

After her breakup with G-Eazy, she felt immense pressure to comment publicly because she’d been so transparent about her life in the past. She thought to herself, So how are you going to do it? Are you going to stream live and start talking about everything? Are you going to go on a Twitter rant? Are you going to flag off on him on TMZ? Or are you going to make a song? “The biggest lesson I learned was to make art, not headlines,” she said. “Because it can become quite easy, in the social media generation, to go from being a musician to becoming a personality.”

Halsey's strategy obviously worked, because the song hit Billboard's No. 1 spot this week. When it was released back in October, she said it was the most personal song she'd ever written, “It’s like this is really me talking about my life."

BRB, analyzing these lyrics for the foreseeable future.
