If you’re stuck in a rut at university, and you’re considering taking a gap year to gain a fresh new perspective so, you can come back all energized and ready to tackle your final year; we feel you! We’ve spoken to fellow restless students who too, were itching for some adventure, mid-degree, and they've recommended this list of travel destinations for you.

Have a gander, book some flights, and jet off to the location of your choosing. Gap years are meant to relieve stress, and that's what we're here to help you do. Your degree will be waiting for you when you’re back from your year of self-discovery and reflection. 

1. Paris

Should you wish to spend a year in the City of Lights, you will be free to soak in the beautiful and ever so romantic French language. You could even spend it learning about the nation's rich culinary arts, while getting accustomed to the city's stunning Parisian fashion. 

2. India

Nothing gets more culturally-intense than India. Douse yourself in this exotic country and take the year to get in tune with the locals, and their way of life. Not only does it hold one of the Seven Wonders of the World (The Taj Mahal), it’s also ideal if you’re travelling on a tight budget.

3. Budapest

No, we’re not suggesting it just because of the George Ezra song – although, it is a pretty ace tune. Spend your gap year exploring the old castles of Budapest while learning all about Hungarian culture. Not to mention, the cost of living is pretty affordable, too.

4. Bali

Visiting this Indonesian gem is ideal if you want to spend your gap year being outdoorsy and adventurous. You can spend your time swimming with the fish below, trekking up a volcano or exploring the many rice fields (nbd). It’s the ideal exotic retreat for students.

5. Amman

You can experience Amman's unique blend of ancient and modern architecture and sights, which includes the iconic Dead Sea. Other must-try destinations and activities include sandboarding and exploring the Jordanian city's many ever-so relaxing mineral spas. Convinced yet?

6. Beirut

Live amongst the bustling souqs, munch on delish food, which includes some of the best shawarma sandwiches known to man, and sip on avocado smoothies while wandering the historical lands of Beirut. Other plus points include the city's buzzing nightlife and stunning art scene. If you're a fan of fashion, you're in for a treat, too. The city is home to some of the best fashion houses in the Middle East and, there are a number of souqs, which sell some of the prettiest pieces, for a very reasonable price. We'd start packing for Lebanon, now. 

7. London

Who doesn’t want to visit the stunning English city? If you don’t fall in love with the British accent, then you’ll fall in love with the seductively modern and vibrant city life. If a quintessentially British experience is what you are after, head on over to London, and sip tea like the British do. Don’t forget to pack accordingly for the cold weather. 

8. Thailand

It’s the ultimate tropical destination if you want a colourful getaway. If you want a gap year filled with stories to make all your friends jealous, you must head on down to the “Jewel of the Far East”. Prepare to spend your time meditating, scuba-diving in the waters of Koh Tao and soaking up every unique aspect of the nation known for its friendly locals and mouthwatering food. PS. The fashion scene is pretty GREAT, too.
