Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life has just landed on Netflix and for those who haven’t binged through seven successful seasons like us, here are the must watch episodes to watch before you enjoy the new show.
Whether you're watching on your way home from work on your mobile, or have set up a separate profile on Netflix so you and your friends can watch them together over a weekend in secret, we’ve outlined the very best scenes to get you up-to-speed for the revival of the iconic series.
Season 1, Episode 1 – ‘Pilot’
Watching the premiere episode of Gilmore Girls is essential. Here is where we begin to grasp Lorelai and Rory’s absolute devotion to coffee. We understand how much elite Chilton prep school means to Rory, and delve into Lorelai’s backstory with Emily and Richard Gilmore, where amends must be made as the money is available for tuition – but with strings attached.
Season 3, Episode 22 – ‘Those Are Strings Pinocchio’
It’s time to grab the tissues to listen to Rory’s Graduation speech from Chilton. Then there’s the dramatic and decisive conversation between Rory and her grandparents when the Independence Inn closes, and the girls start getting excited for their first trip around Europe.
Season 4, Episode 2 – ‘The Lorelais’ First Day at Yale’
This episode perfectly sums up Lorelai and Rory’s inseparable relationship, it’s Rory’s first night in her college dorm and Lorelai stays the night. However even though they are best friends, Lorelai realises she has to let Rory be an adult. Rory thought she had seen the end of Paris but she turns out being one of her new roommates – and not by accident.
Season 5, Episode 3 – ‘Written in the Stars’
This episode is a must watch for all Gilmore Girls fans, Lorelai and Luke go on their first date, where Luke says he’s ‘all in’. It was the point where everyone started looking at their horoscopes in a different way when Luke pulled out his horoscope from his wallet that he’d held onto for years, a romantic moment at its best between our favourite couple Luke and Lorelai. Rory also meets the blonde and attractive Logan, from the very wealthy Huntzberger family.
Season 5, Episode 13 – ‘Wedding Bell Blues’
The milestone 100th episode of Gilmore Girls is by far one of the most dramatic episode of the entire show. It’s basically impossible not to have your eyes glued to the screen, there is havoc as Rory’s father Chris insists that Lorelai and Luke’s relationship is only temporary, as Emily Gilmore has convinced Chris that him and Lorelai are meant for each other.
Season 7, Episode 22 – ‘Bon Voyage’
If you decide to watch no other episode, this is the one to choose, the series finale that you never want to end. Rory gets a job following the presidential campaign and is leaving in only three days, Lorelai is struggling to adjust to the fact that she might not see her best friend/daughter for weeks or even months. The entire town of Stars Hollow put on a farewell party for Rory despite the rain, and the series ends with Luke still trying to figure out how he really feels for Lorelai after the karaoke jam. Will it all be revealed in the return of Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life, now streaming on Netflix?
