David Beckham Is Joining Meghan Markle And Prince Harry On Their Royal Tour To Australia

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are headed to Australia this autumn on a full royal tour, timed to coincide with the Invictus Games. And this week it was announced that their friend David Beckham will be joining them.

Through a post on his Instagram account, Beckham shared the news that he has been named as the ambassador of the Invictus Games, the international adaptive sport competition for wounded servicemen, women, and veterans that Prince Harry founded in 2014. His post featured two photos from previous years of the Games accompanied with some thoughtful words about his new role.

"I’ve been lucky enough to meet and work with many serving, veteran and wounded British armed forces personnel over the years and I’ve been humbled by the courage, resilience and spirit shown by each and every one of them," his caption read, in part.

Beckham and his wife (designer and former Spice Girl) Victoria were both in attendance at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding in May, looking quite chic while supporting their friends. The two were also guests at Prince William and Kate Middleton's 2011 nuptials, proving that their history with the royal family runs deep.

Beckham is reportedly good friends with both royal brothers, so it's not surprising that he was asked to take on a role that's so close to Harry's heart. "They're very easy to get along with," Beckham said in an interview with Esquire when asked about his feelings toward William and Harry. "It's a very normal relationship."

In the past, the Invictus Games have been hosted in London, Orlando, and Toronto, where Meghan first attended last autumn. This year's event will take place in Sydney in October, and Beckham's enthusiasm about his role is clear.

"I can’t wait to be part of the energy and excellence of the Games this year," he wrote.
