Cosmo ME: Have you ever been to Dubai? What’s something you’re looking forward to the most?

Vanessa Villela: Never but I absolutely love everything about the city. I have a lot of followers from Dubai and the designers there are so incredible. I’m dying to go there for sure. I just want to explore the whole city and then the food. I want to really get deep into it and really familiarize myself with the culture and everything.

C: Could you tell us what has been your favourite moment from being on the cast of Selling Sunset?

V: Well, I think I definitely enjoy a lot of the difference because I’ve been on TV my whole life. People know me as an actress but not as a person and for me to be able to inspire women or even men and share what I’ve experienced. Some people are struggling right now in their lives or they think that there’s no light at the end of the tunnel, but there’s always light and if you work on yourself and believe in yourself, anything is possible.

I just love the opportunity for me to be able to present myself in the show- where I am not an actress but Vanessa. But, I had to go through a lot of pain and tears throughout my life for me to be able to get to that point. Like it doesn’t happen overnight.

C: So, you had referenced earlier that Selling Sunset isn’t your first time on camera and that you’ve had this whole career beforehand of being a soap opera actress. Can you tell us a little bit more about that for anyone who only knows you from Selling Sunset?

V: I started when I was four years old in Mexico. It was at a birthday party and my classmate’s father happened to be the producer of one of the most successful TV shows in Mexico for kids at the time. He asked my mom if my sister and I could be on the show and our mom asked us and we were like, “Yes, let’s do it.”, and that’s how I started on TV.

As a four-year-old, it obviously wasn’t my dream but when I started doing it, I felt that it was right for me and that it was my path. I knew that I wanted to be an actress. I later came out of TV for three or four years and then came back to soap operas again.

C: How much pressure is there to look absolutely perfect when you’re on camera?

V: Once I’m on set, I’m relaxed. I think probably at the beginning, I was not that relaxed because I’m used to soap operas where they will tell you which is your best angle etc. But, you know, who cares? Like yeah, I used to be on TV and I used to have that mentality of ‘Oh, I need to be on the other side or the light has to be here.’ But now I’m like, ‘Oh, whatever. Once I’m on set, I’m relaxing.’

C: Before we wrap up, is there a message you want to send out to your fans in the Middle East?

V: First of all, thank you for all your love and support and all the messages you’ve sent me. I read them all eventhough I don’t reply to all of them. But, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I also want to say keep believing in yourself. You know, get ready for the butterflies that are coming out soon. Spread love and get your butterfly. They’re gonna come out very soon.
