Cosmo ME: Why did you choose to lend your voice to the #WeChoose movement?

Maritta Hallani: I am proud to collaborate with GALAXY® Chocolate and Anghami for the #WeChoose campaign. I am passionate about women’s rights and strive to influence and empower women to make their own decisions and determine their own choices in their personal and professional lives.

I recently released a song that I wrote and performed titled ‘I am a girl’ to deliver a similar message. Through the #WeChoose movement, I would like to send out a message to all the girls of my generation who are trying hard to succeed and achieve their dreams, whatever the circumstances and obstructions.

C: Who inspires you the most?

MH: The person who inspires me the most is my father. I am greatly influenced by his way of thinking and working. Apart from that, I am constantly inspired by the success stories of others, and I strive to benefit from them and learn from their successes.

C: What advice would you give to young women who want to pursue the same field as yours?

MH: I would tell them to be themselves unapologetically and not care about what others say. It is important to follow your dreams; carve your identity and not try to imitate others. If you focus on your goal and disregard the hurdles that are in your way, you are bound to achieve it, come what may.

C: What difficulties did you find challenged you the most as you grew as an artist?

MH: Given that my father is a popular singer, it was difficult for me to prove my abilities in this field, as, along my journey, some people have been presumptuous and prejudiced of my talent and have assumed that I have piggybacked off my father’s successes. While this presumption has been very difficult to deal with, I was able to overcome it thanks to the support I had from my well-wishers. People have now started referring to me as an up-and-coming talent, rather than as the daughter of the popular singer Assi El-Hellani.

C: Lastly, could you tell us about your upcoming projects for 2022?

MH: I will star in a series called ‘Nazeef’, which will be aired at the end of this year. I will also release several singles, one of which is a Lebanese song titled ‘Shou Ela Maana’

We. can’t. wait.
