Before we start, lemme just say that no one – I repeat – N.O.O.N.E. wants a Friends reunion as badly as I do. Truly. I would Rumpelstiltskin it and give away my first-born for a Friends reunion, which is why this morning’s news has irked me a bit.

In case you’ve been living under a rock, the entire Friends cast took to Instagram today to all share a unanimous picture and capture: “It’s happening.”

Before long, my social media feeds were totally awash with every publication under the sun covering the news. ‘Cast of Friends finally reuniting for a comeback series’ they all seemed to say.

So, naturally, being the absolute Friends fanatic that I am, I did a deep dive into exactly who, what, where, when and why this ‘reunion’ was happening.

“Guess you could call this the one where they all got back together – we are reuniting with David, Jennifer, Courteney, Matt, Lisa and Matthew for an HBO Max special that will be programmed alongside the entire Friends Library,” said Kevin Reilly, chief content officer for the channel.

The cast will come together for an “untitled unscripted special” that will coincide with the launch of HBO Max, the media giant’s new streaming service.

Lemme just break that down for you… Unscripted is industry-speak for reality-TV or a documentary. So, really, this is just going to be a Q&A with the actors, where they will be reminiscing about the show, which first aired in 1994.

The one-off special will air ahead of the 236 episodes, so it’s basically like Cliff Notes IRL.

Am I still excited? Absolutely. Will I be tuning in to watch? Abso-freakin-lutely. But this is not in any way a reboot. We won’t be finding out where Rachel, Monica, Ross, Chandler, Joey and Phoebe are now; we’ll be listening to Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matthew Perry, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer look back at their time on Sound-Stage 24.

They’re still my lobsters, though.
