“Just believe in yourself, you can achieve your dreams”, is what Emirati drag racer Hamda Taryam told our Cosmo ME readers in 2021. Through profound passion, influence and devoted philanthropic work, Hamda indisputably blazed a trail for young Arab women, inspiring a generation to never give up on their dreams.
Over the weekend we learned the devastating news of Hamda’s passing. As the world mourns the loss of an incredible young woman, we also look back on her achievements, from her career as a racer to her selfless charity work.
An inspiration to aspiring female racers
In a 2021 interview with Cosmo ME, Hamda was quick to tell us that no dream is too big. Her successful career was fueled by a passion for racing, and she never stopped believing in her abilities.
“The biggest misconception is that women can’t compete in a sport that is being dominated by men. I am proud of myself, and it’s important for other women and girls all over the Arab world to see that love, passion and determination are all they need to succeed at anything”.
She was unwavering in her efforts to inspire a generation and will continue to be a guidepost for young Arab women to believe in their own dreams. As she told us herself, “Just believe in yourself and nothing is impossible. Just try to develop your skills to achieve what you’re passionate about”.
