Cosmo ME: You’ve previously shared that your first Cannes experience was lonely and terrifying. Fast forward three years, and you have an entire team to support you. What has changed over time?
Masoom Minawala: I have gotten a hang of how things work behind the red carpet and now I’m well versed in the process of the close-knit deadlines. My previous experiences have shaped my future journey at the Cannes Film Festival.
This year has been a personal and professional milestone. I’ve been able to invest in flying my team to Cannes, which is proudly a first for all of us. Essentially, the red carpet at Cannes has witnessed my trajectory and growth very closely.

C: Influencers and content creators tend to receive backlash for attending ‘celebrity events’ like the Cannes and Met Gala. What is your opinion on the power of influencers and social media at international events and the role you play here?
M: I personally believe that at this point in time, a sense of community with undercurrents of inclusivity is what the global audience is craving. The consumers of today desire candidness and reality instead of worshipping perfection. And, that is something that responsible content curators across the globe are trying to promote.
It is the era of #Unfiltered digital content and even the so-called ‘celebrities’ are mostly coming across with the most candid versions of themselves on social media.
C: Looking back at your immense growth as an influencer and content creator, what are the three things you wish you knew about attending a red-carpet event?
M: I honestly wish that somebody would have told me that two months of my preparation, ideations, and putting together a look was going to be reflected in only 200 seconds.
C: You have built a huge fan base for sharing educational and super informative videos on the inner workings and the business of fashion. What drives you to create such content?
M: I still remember when I was starting off, it was the exclusivity of galas and fashion shows like these that heavily intrigued me. When I saw that there was not a lot of information on the behind-the-scenes of the glitz and glamour, I realized that there was a gap that needed to be filled with informative content. So, I decided to be candid with my audience and show them the amount of effort and hard work that goes into the making of a look. I never wanted the glamorous side of fashion to deceive anybody.

C: When it comes to choosing your red carpet looks, what are the things you consider while choosing the designers?
M: There’s something about the red carpets of Cannes that makes me want to get out of my comfort zone and experiment with my personal style. So, one thing that I’m often considering while picking out designers and outfits is how their aesthetics should be in sync with my vibe.
C: What are you most excited about for Cannes 2022?
M: I have been so excited to witness the Indian Pavilion and see how the world absorbs the magnificence of Indian cinematic excellence. Whether that is in the form of fashion, films, culture, or art. Also, I won the title of ‘Most Authentic Fashion Influencer’ at the World Influencers and Bloggers Awards (WIBA) 2022 held in Cannes.Â
C: What are your best red-carpet beauty looks?
M: Hands down using pearls and surface embellishments for my hairstyles and as a part of my make-up. I have also been obsessed with skincare-infused make-up and the minimalistic glass-skin look with a dramatic smoky eye.
