Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu made a name for herself with several stints on reality TV and is currently in South Africa appearing on Love Islands: All Stars.
Many fans of the beauty will be aware that she is half British, half Turkish (she has even acted in one of Turkey’s biggest TV shows Kuzey Yıldızı İlk Aşk with her often referencing her heritage and calling herself a “Turkish delight”.
And now, she has shared more about living with dual heritage and how it’s her “superpower” in a chat with Cosmo ME.
Cosmo ME: How has your Turkish heritage shaped your identity and career?
Ekin-Su: My Turkish heritage is such a big part of who I am. Growing up in a British-Turkish household, I was surrounded by so many beautiful traditions, delicious food, and a vibrant culture. It’s always kept me connected to my roots and has given me a unique perspective on life and a real love for storytelling, which naturally shaped my acting career. I take so much pride in bringing pieces of my culture into everything I do, whether it’s through my work or even just sharing a bit of Turkey with my friends and audience.
Cosmo ME: You’ve spoken about embracing your roots more recently. What inspired that shift?
Ekin-Su: After winning Love Island in 2022, I had this incredible global platform, and it made me realise how important it is to represent my whole identity authentically. As I’ve grown, I’ve felt this stronger sense to embrace my heritage more openly—not just for me but for anyone out there who feels like they’re navigating two cultures. Sharing my Turkish side, whether it’s cooking traditional meals or showing how my roots influence my work, has been empowering and has connected me with so many people around the world.
Cosmo ME: Have your Turkish roots influenced your acting or creative projects?
Ekin-Su: Absolutely! I grew up watching Turkish dramas with my family, and the passion and emotion in them are just incredible. That intensity definitely shaped how I approach roles—giving everything to the story and really connecting with the audience. I’d love to work on more projects that combine my Turkish and British backgrounds because both are such a big part of who I am.
Cosmo ME: You’ve often celebrated Turkish food on your platforms. Do you have a favourite dish?
Ekin-Su: I could talk about Turkish food forever! If I had to pick a favourite, it would be lahmacun or börek! And of course,e you can’t go wrong with baklava. It’s the perfect treat after a long day!
Cosmo ME: What do you hope fans take away from your celebration of your Turkish heritage?
Ekin-Su: I hope it inspires people to embrace their roots proudly and unapologetically. It’s so easy to feel like you have to fit into just one box, but our heritage is what makes us unique. I want people to see their culture as something that adds to their strength and individuality. For me, my heritage is a bridge between my past and my future, and sharing it with the world has been such a joy.
Cosmo ME: As someone with a dual British-Turkish identity, what does “home” mean to you?
Ekin-Su: For me, home isn’t just a physical place—it’s a feeling. It’s the comfort of my mum’s cooking, the sound of Turkish music playing in the background, and the love I feel from my family and friends. Whether I’m in London, Turkey, or anywhere in the world, that feeling of homestays with me. It’s a reminder of my roots and the strength they give me.
Cosmo ME: How did your role in Kuzey Yıldızı İlk Aşk shape your career?
Ekin-Su: Starring in Kuzey Yıldızı İlk Aşk was such a defining moment for me. It was my first major acting role, and being part of such a beloved Turkish series taught me so much about the craft. Turkish dramas are known for their deep emotions and storytelling, and it really challenged me to grow as an actress. It was also amazing to connect with Turkish audiences who were so supportive and welcoming. That experience will always hold a special place in my heart.
