Spotify has just released the UAE’s most-streamed songs of the summer, and although they’re all great hits, there’s not one single female musician listed.

It could just simply be a coincedence that no female artists released chart-topping songs this summer, right? Wrong. But as much as i’d love to go on a whole rant about how streaming services tend to perpetuate a male-dominated industry – I won’t, but I will say this…

How could we forget about Meg thee Stallion!?

The upcoming female rapper has been nothing but a rising-star this year, and not just in the US. Her EP’s ‘Tina Hot‘, ‘Make It Snow‘, and ‘Suga‘ have charted on the Billboard 200. And her iconic song, ‘Savage’ went viral on TikTok, dominating as number one on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. Don’t even get me started on the fact that our girl Meg has already collaborated with Beyoncé and Cardi B! And she’s only really been prominent on the music scene for the last two years!

This Hot Girl’s songs have become viral on TikTok multiple times, from ‘Savage‘ to ‘Captain Hook,’ ‘Girls in the Hood,’ and most recently ‘WAP.’ These bops became so widely-used that they created a whole dance challenge on TikTok for each. of. these. songs. Seriously.

If you weren’t desperately trying to learn one of these dances in quarantine, then were you really quarantine-ing?

No hate to Drake or Dababy, because their songs landing in the top 10 most-streamed songs is not surprising. But we have to give credit where credit is due. @Meg, this is an ode to you, an appreciation article if you will. You should’ve definitely made it to the UAE’s most-streamed songs list, and now i’ll be listening to your latest EP non-stop to make that happen next time.

It’s still a Hot Girl Summer, people!
