Over the weekend, something amazing happened. Our girl, Taylor Swift, was reborn – and by that we mean she shed her old skin (ref to her last album ‘reputation,’ where the symbol of a snake played a huge role), and she’s now evolved into a pretty butterfly. How adorably metamorphic.
Her latest single, ‘Me!‘ featuring lead singer of Panic At The Disco! Brendon Urie, is incredibly boppy and catchy. The pair wanted the song to be set apart from the traditional heartfelt love song, and instead create a goofy melody that everyone could sings and dance to. I mean, I think they pretty much nailed it because I’ve been playing the song on repeat for the past four days.
The best part of the song, however, has to be all the Easter eggs T-Swizzle laid out for the eagle-eyed Swifties. Taylor’s known for leaving clues like this all the time, FYI.
Here’s what you might have missed:
1. The Snake Turns Into A Butterfly
It’s possibly the most iconic part of the music video, because of the huge underlying meaning. Here’s a little backstory about the snake ICYMI: Taylor made it her identity in her last album, ‘reputation‘, following beef with Kim Kardashian where Kim posted a read-between-the-lines Tweet about Taylor using snake emojis.
The brilliant imagery of the butterfly is Taylor’s way of showing us the next TS era is here. Her Nashville mural and custom Instagram filters are further indication of this. TBH, the butterfly is more of a Taylor vibe than than the snake ever was, in my humble opinion.
2. Cool Chicks
One of the lyrics of the song is, “And there’s a lot of cool chicks out there”. Taylor’s always been one for the punny humour and it’s one the things that makes her so lovable. So obviously, she took the ‘cool chicks’ line and gave it a whole other meaning, where the apartment featured in the music video actually had a wall with framed pictures of cool chicks. By that I mean, there were pictures of baby chicks in sunglasses. LOL, good one Taylor.
Spotted in the background is a picture of the Dixie Chicks, who have long known to be a big inspiration for Taylor’s music. Hmm, could it mean the Dixie Chicks will be featured in her new album?
There was also this so…

3. “Kaleidoscopes of Loud Heartbeats Under Coats”
This cute little egg is for the real Swifties out there. In the music video, we see Brendon Urie reveal a heart under his coat, and then the camera zooms in to display a tunnel (or kaleidoscope) of hearts. This is literally the lyric from her 2015 song, ‘Welcome to New York‘:
“Walking through a crowd, the village is aglow
Kaleidoscope of loud heartbeats under coats”
4. Seven Suitcases
Taylor can be seen dancing with seven suitcases around her and this is an ode to the fact that this album will be her seventh.
5. Taylor Answers the Phone
In the edgy music video off her last album, ‘reputation’, in the music video for, ‘Look What You Made Me Do‘, Taylor says: “The old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now”. However, in ‘Me!‘, we do in fact see Taylor coming to the phone. Was this her way of telling us she’s risen from the dead?
6. Mary Poppins Ref
Mary Poppins was referenced when Brendon Urie flew through the city with an umbrella, just like the ever popular British character did. Was this Taylor’s way of paying respect to her British beau, Joe Alwyn?
Another interesting find is in the background of one scene in the video, two well-known buildings are featured: Big Ben, which is in London, England, and the White House, which is in Washington D.C. in the United States. Some fans believe that portraying both the U.S. and the U.K. together could symbolise Swift and Alwyn’s relationship – and this is a reference to how the two have merged their cultures to become one. Well, isn’t that double chocolate sundae sweet?
7. A New Cat Versus An Engagement
2 clues… Either @taylorswift has a new cat… Or she's engaged! @taylornation13 pic.twitter.com/bYj2eGW0w2

At first, we really though Tay Tay was engaged, but actually, she was trying to telling us that she’s added a new member to her family. No, not her boyfriend Joe, a new, furry feline friend; which is a pretty adorable thing to do.
According to a release from YouTube, Taylor’s ‘Me!‘ video clocked a record-breaking 65.2 million views within the first 24 hours of its release. This feat makes Swift the solo and female artist with the biggest 24-hour debut on YouTube to-date, beating Ariana Grande’s ‘thank u, next’ music video (which made 55 million views).
I will be on the edge of my seat until Taylor releases another single. How excited are you for her next album?
