In royal tradition, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry haven’t announced the gender of their baby. Typically, members of the royal family don’t opt to find out the gender of their unborn child prior to its birth, leaving it until the big day itself to find out.
Meghan told a member of the public during an official visit to Birkenhead back in January that she and Harry were following suit, keeping it a “surprise”. But there have been conflicting claims that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex do actually know the gender of their first child, they’re just keeping it under wraps publicly and only sharing the information with close friends… like Serena Williams.
The problem is, Serena Williams may accidentally have just given the game away.
In an interview with E! News, Serena was asked what her best piece of advice for new mums would be, and the tennis champion started off pretty smoothly, sharing some solid words of wisdom:
“Accept mistakes and don’t expect to be perfect. We put so much pressure on ourselves,” she said.
But then. Then, she went on to say:
“My friend is pregnant, and she was like, ‘My kid’s gonna do this,’ [and] I just looked at her like, ‘No, she’s not’.”
No she’s not??? As in, the baby, a she? Well, well, well.
Obviously Serena didn’t mention Meghan Markle by name as being ‘the pregnant friend’, so we can only draw conclusions here that she accidentally let slip the royal baby’s gender, but Serena did appear to nervously back track quickly after.
After saying “no, she’s not”, the mum-of-one then swiftly went on to say: “No, you’re not,” as if changing tack.
Hmm. Interesting. Place your bets on the royal baby being a girl, people.
If Baby Sussex does turn out to be a girl (which according to a flurry of bets, people seem to be pretty confident about) the favourite names according to bookmakers Paddy Power include:

If Serena did make an accidental slip up in the interview, she might just have managed to save it. The tennis player was later asked what how she thought Meghan Markle would handle motherhood, and replied confidently: “She’ll be the best mum, for sure.”
Now that, we do know. Only a few more weeks until we find out for certain whether Baby Sussex is a girl.
