If you’ve already started the countdown for Game of Thrones Season 7, we’ve got some terrible, terrible news. HBO has confirmed that, rather than launching the new season in April (which is standard), they’ve decided to push it back by at least two months and we’re not coping very well.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the delay in production is attributed to the producers’ decision to make the most of filming in the Northern hemisphere’s colder months.
“Now that winter has arrived on Game of Thrones, executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss felt that the storylines of the next season would be better served by starting production a little later than usual, when the weather is changing,” said Casey Bloys, President of HBO programming. Um, selfish much?
But wait, it gets worse.
As though two extra months without GOT wasn’t bad enough, HBO’s also stated that they’re slashing the number of eps per season from 10 to a measly 7.
That’s right, season 7 will contain only 73 hours of Jon Snow glory before it’s suspected the producers further cut down to just 6 eps in season 8. “We’ve known for several years now how many hours, roughly, we want it to go, it hasn’t changed,” Benioff said.
In other, less significant, news, season 7 will apparently be filmed in Northern Ireland, Spain and Iceland with directors Alan Taylor, Jeremy Podeswa, Mark Mylod, and Matt Shakman already confirmed but we don’t even care because we’re already dead inside.
Now, the only thing left to do is wait for THE MIDDLE OF NEXT FREKKIN’ YEAR…
