I’m struggling to believe it was only three weeks ago that I was crying my pathetic eyes out watching Meghan Markle walk down that aisle in the Givenchy gown of dreams, but the calendar doesn’t lie.
Three days after the royal wedding, the newlyweds were pictured celebrating at Prince Charles’ 70th bday knees up. But since then, it’s been radio silence from the couple who were living their best lives on their honeymoon.
Trooping the Colour – aka the Queen’s official bday celebration – is the first time they’ve been photographed since, and of course they look so ridiculously happy. If I was a more cynical person I’d say it makes me want to puke, but look at them! How can you not be filled with joy!
As they rode together in a horse-drawn carriage, Meghan and Harry were beaming from ear to ear. One could say they were still sporting a honeymoon glow, if one was being really cringe (which yeah, I am).
They were chatting and laughing together as they followed the Queen’s carriage, and Kate Middleton and The Duchess of Cornwall’s. They’re just like us people!
We also got a little glimpse of them on the balcony before the famous ‘fly past’ involved in Trooping the Colour every year. During the BBC’s live broadcast, Harry seemed to be explaining to Meghan what was going on (can someone get that subtitled ASAP, because I’m still not entirely sure myself), and she was nodding along and smiling with him.
While it’s tradition for royal newlyweds to go on their honeymoon immediately after the wedding, the brand new Duke and Duchess stuck two fingers up at tradition (so rebel, much anarchy!) by delaying theirs. Instead of jetting off ASAP, they attended Charles’ birthday garden party because your 70th is kind of a biggie.
Here’s Meghan at the party looking beyond adorable:
After this, they finally got to actually enjoy some time together without the whole world watching them. It was speculated that they’d be spending their honeymoon in Namibia, Africa. And The Sun reported the accommodation for the romantic getaway was Hoanib Valley Camp in Kaokoland, north-western Namibia, which is “surrounded by mountains, sand dunes, and huge expanses of desert.”
Then, it turned out the destination had to be changed last minute. Any time anyone gets wind of where royals are off to, the destination has to be changed for security reasons. So really we’re all still in the dark about where they’ve been the last few weeks.
No matter where they went though, we bet it was full of drinking cocktails on the beach and revelling in their happiness.
