This season we hosted our first (and *free*) Cosmo Careers Festival for all you career enthusiasts. Natalie Sallaum, our May digital cover star, and Anas Bukhash ~blessed~ us with some career advice discussing the art of self-promotion, social media, and tips when becoming an entrepreneur.
Let’s be real. It’s a long journey to figure out what you’re passionate about, and if you’re the one who has it all figured out, we’re guessing you’re now wondering how to get yourself that *massive* bank account?
Well, this links in with being an important asset to an organization through your skills, work experience, and in the end it all boils down to self-promotion.
What’s better than learning the craft of self-promotion from content creators or influencers? They’ve started off from scratch to build up a huge following on social media and have come so far off in revolutionizing brand promotions and making a career.

In our The Art of Self-promotion: Turning your passion into paycheques session, we sat down with content creator and entrepreneur Natalie Sallaum as well as interview host and serial entrepreneur Anas Bukhash to learn from the experts themselves.
It’s never too late to find your passion
It’s an uphill battle of trials and errors to know what you’re passionate about. Don’t sell yourself short and put yourself on a timer to figure out what you want your career to be in. You don’t have to forever work in a career that you no longer desire, don’t hesitate to transition into something new and exciting.

Be irreplaceable
If you want to be a pro in a field that you’re passionate about, you have to be unique and authentic to be the best in the game. Focus on doing what you love and be consistent at perfecting your skills.
“When you just follow what people are doing and don’t enjoy it, how sustainable is it?” says Anas on following the latest social media trends. “If all I’m looking at is what people do, I can’t be authentic. I will always avoid posting something that is untrue to me.”
Natalie’s approach to social media content focuses on being real with her audience and finding the right balance between engaging content and showcasing the reality of her everyday life. “With YouTube, I am able to show my real life. It’s not a perfect picture. It’s important to be true.”
Time to stop comparing
Everyone has a different journey to where they are from. Bukhash asserts the importance of reminding yourself to stray away from comparing yourself to others or having a role model. “One of the worst things to do as human beings is to compare because what I’m doing is just demotivating myself. That’s what women and men do on social media, they compare and don’t know beyond.”
