We’ve all been there. Yup, we’re getting real and talking period stains.

According to new research from detergent brand OMO, 63% of women in Saudi Arabia say attitudes toward menstruation have improved over generations, phew! But there’s still a slight problem – 72% still feel like the topic of period care and stains are totally off-limits in conversation.

And because of this silence? 70% of women have actually thrown away clothes or bedsheets because they didn’t know how to remove period stains properly.

Well, OMO have taken matters into their own hands and decided it’s time for a glow-up in period education – they’re bringing stain-removal hacks straight to the heart of Saudi women’s traditions: henna and beauty salons. These spaces aren’t just about self-care and getting your nails did, they’re a safe space where women share stories, give advice, and have real, open conversations.

The best part? OMO is teaming up with henna artists to literally paint period care tips into their designs. Yup, its groundbreaking.

Each intricate pattern won’t just look stunning adorned on our hands – the design is also a secret stain-removal guide 👀. The designs follow a simple three-step method you can see below, for tackling those pesky period stains, so get your notebooks out.

Step 1: Soften with cold water.
Step 2: Wash with OMO, their strong products are enriched with ingredients that target tough stains like blood.
Step 3: Rinse in cold water.

Sarah Qazi, Arabia Home Care Business Lead at Unilever, explains: “The challenge was to reach the millions of women who experience periods every single day and address the lack of conversation and knowledge around period care.”

She continued “We knew we needed a medium that felt organic, familiar, and deeply personal. That’s when we looked at henna, not just as an art form, but as a storytelling tradition that has existed for generations.”

And OMO isn’t stopping there. As part of their mission to break period taboos, they’re launching custom henna design kits for artists across Saudi, making period care education feel as effortless as getting your blow dry. Wanna be part of the movement? You can download the henna designs here.

OMO is turning tradition into transformation, because talking about periods should be normalised, just like picking out a new henna design.

Btw, your make-up bags need these new products.
