Let me say this on the off: it’s Wednesday. It’s the last stretch till the weekend. So, needs must. And it’s 2021. Go figure…
I love a good facial and the one I had at the Dubai London Clinic with Rebecca Treston recently, is a doozy.
Right now, the Pico Genesis Facial is having a moment. It’s touted as the most (non-invasively) penetrating and long-lasting facial, getting right to the root of your skin woes in a gentle yet precise way.
So, what does pico mean? Heard of a nanosecond? Enter a picosecond – one trillionth of a second as opposed to one thousand-millionth of a second. It’s uber fast and powerful. It’s the newest and most potent facial on the market, using three highly effective wavelengths in ultra-short pulses with ultra long results.
Now, Pico Genesis – a skin rebirth, if you will, breaks down pigmentation, proffers an amazing glow and give you resurfacing results lickety split. With a blend of technologies to create shockwaves that shatter pigments in the skin without damaging the surrounding tissue, the laser gently disrupts and disperses pigmentation caused by freckles or sun damage (even though I rarely sit in the sun, I still had stains of le soleil on my visage) as well as textures from wrinkles or acne scarring. Other troublesome areas Pico Genesis delightfully deals with are: brown spots, melasma, pigmented lesions and hyperpigmentation.
You’ve got to get to your appointment with 30-40 minutes to spare as the usual score of a numbing cream needs to be applied – see pic, “I’m ready for my close-up Mr. DeMille” and after a 30-minute wait and quick podcast catch up, the zip, zap, zing will begin for no more than 20 minutes. As far as any pain, well, because you’re numb, you won’t feel anything hard core – just a bit of sensation and impact. Maybe a slight jolt of irritation but if you’ve ever had your eyebrows tweezed, you’ll be dancing through life with this one. The corners of the eye is where it might make you wince but Rebecca will ninja her way around it to keep you as comfortable as possible.
Once it was all done, I was a tad red raw in patches, but if you think about it, of course I would be – after all, it’s an intense, non-thermal, photo mechanical disruption and remodelling of the upper dermis. However, it’s all super safe and the improvements are visible right here, right now.
Rebecca will apply an algae mask to take the heat out and OMG it was so nice and soothing, especially because it was applied as if by spatula.
Now, downtime will vary from person to person, skin to skin – patience may be required. I needed two days to arrive to a place of ‘hey there, new skin’ and then it was #nofilter for over two months and counting.
P.S. if you have a ‘dumb-decision-tattoo from the the age of 17’ that you want removing, Pico Genesis can give you a clean slate again! Your mum will finally rest easy…
Biggest takeaways from the Pico Genesis: more even skin texture, no more sun spots (it’s up to me to not let those puppies pounce on my face again. MoreSPF, note to self), and a lit from within glow.
