The 3 rules Kylie Jenner's MUA swears by for perfect foundation application
CosmoBy Cosmo -

He's only 24-years old, but Ariel Tejada has already made a name for himself as Kylie Jenner's go-to make-up man.

And his forte? Flawless, creamy, lit-from-within skin.

You only have to watch him apply make-up to see that his hands were made for baking, strobing and contouring (honestly, it's mesmerising). But if the cost of a ticket to one of his masterclasses is... ahem... a little out of your budget, there are some brilliant tutorials still lurking on YouTube - no masterclass ticket required.

Our personal fave is from 2017, where he makes a guest appearance on his friend Shay Mitchell's YouTube channel, to show her the correct way to apply make-up after a "failed" attempt of her own.

It's worth watching just for the bants, to be fair, but if you're looking for some easy-to-follow, skin-changing make-up application tips, then press play and soak it up.

Ariel makes up one half of Shay's face so that she can copy his work on the other, and there's a lot to be learnt from his methods. Mainly, the importance of prepping your skin before applying a single drop of make-up (don't forget your eye cream), and how using different types and sizes of make-up brushes to blend your base can make all the difference to the end result.

Watch the short video below to catch Ariel's key application tips, then follow our more detailed how-to right underneath.

ARIEL'S 3 STEPS TO FOUNDATION PERFECTION

Moisturise & strobe: Ariel preps the skin by applying a gel moisturiser (La Mer Moisturizing Cool Gel Cream, Dhs693), which he brushes on using a soft stipple brush. He adds a second layer of moisturiser using Embryolisse Laboratories Lait-Creme Concentrate, Dhs118, followed by the Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer Highlighter, Dhs240 "just to be cute and add glowy skin." He applies it using using the smaller end of the It Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Complexion Perfection Brush #7.

Add oil to your foundation: That's right, for blendability, Ariel mixes a drop or two of face oil to his foundation, blending them together on the back of his hand to use the warmth from his skin. Ariel's foundation of choice is La Mer The Soft Fluid Long Wear Foundation SPF 20, Dhs441. Then, just tap the oil-foundation mix onto your skin using a foundation brush or beauty blender.

Do NOT conceal first: Ariel has a lot to say about people (read: Shay) who apply their concealer first. "You're going to go in with your foundation and move and blend the concealer shade you have on your face," he explains. "So now your foundation is ashy and you've removed the concealer you applied. It's just a hot mess."

Point taken, Ariel. We're off to glow up...
