Two months ago I quit drinking coffee. I know, I know, it’s practically unheard of (and let me tell you, the detox was rough AF) *but* it was something that had been on my mind for quite some time. To reward myself for doing the seemingly impossible, I treated myself to a laser teeth whitening session at J’Adore Medical Clinic in Business Bay, Dubai.

Let’s just say my teeth went from a 🌽aesthetic to pearly white in no time.

The assessment

At the start of the treatment, my dentist, Doctor Marta, assessed my oral health. She checked out my teeth for cavities and asked me if my teeth are normally sensitive. I explained to her that the years of indulgent coffee consumption caused my teeth to lose their luminosity and give them an undesirable yellow tint.

Dr. Marta informed me that my teeth are a great candidate for the power whitening procedure. At J’Adore Medical Clinic, they use an “in-house teeth whitening system that uses a laser beam to destroy long-built plaques. Combined with the teeth whitening gel, this safely whitens teeth without damaging enamel. Most people benefit from teeth whitening, including those that have yellow and brown teeth. Teeth that are already extremely white most likely will not have dramatic results.”

Dr. Marta determined my teeth were a yellow-hued A1-A2 colour on her colour scale. She told me she’d definitely be able to whiten them up.

The procedure

After my initial assessment, Dr. Marta applied a protective barrier over my gums to prevent contact with the teeth whitening gel. The procedure itself takes a total of two hours and includes three rounds of the whitening gel application followed by 25 minutes with the laser.

With the blue barrier on my gums, I was ready for my first session of whitening gel application. Not my most glam moment, but the results are *so* worth it.

At the start of the three 25-minute sessions, I felt like time would drag on. Surprisingly, it didn’t. Aside from the fact I was comfortably lounging in the reclining chair, I was entertained by the TV on the ceiling. I even tuned out for a bit and meditated.

With each application of the teeth whitening gel, I noticed that my teeth were feeling more and more sensitive. Doctor Marta assured me this is normal. At the end of the third session, Dr. Marta took out her colour scale once again and confirmed that my teeth had most definitely gotten whiter.

The before and after speaks for itself. Confidence level: 💯.

The aftermath

After the teeth whitening procedure was over, I was given a list of aftercare precautions and tips. First and foremost, it’s essential to ~not~ eat or drink anything that is pigmented. That means no dark beverages, no brightly coloured fruits, and no chocolate cake (#sob).

Essentially, I had to eat what Dr. Marta called a “white diet.” That was fine for me. As a lifelong carb lover, I’ve never been one to turn down rice or bread.

The sensitivity was pretty painful for the first 24 hours and gently subsided by the 48-hour mark. I took a couple of Panadol to help with the pain. On the first night, I had a little trouble sleeping because of it.

No filter needed.

The sensitivity wore off by day three and my white teeth are here to stay. The results last six months to one year depending on how you care for your teeth. Dr. Marta gave me a special powder to use once a week to maintain my new luminosity and radiance and told me to start using it in two months. I’m obsessed with how white and brilliant my teeth look. The results are fantastic and I can’t stop smiling.
