Having tangled hair might just be the most frustrating thing ever. In fact, dealing with hair breakage is about as fun as having a hangnail: It’s annoying and hard to prevent, but it can be done. Ahead, six super handy ways to detangle your hair – without having to endure a drastic haircut.

1. Use a pre-wash detangler before washing it

A pre-wash detangler is going to moisturize your hair before shampooing to prevent it from getting more tangled in the shower. An option you can use is Pantene’s Hair Primer, it is designed to prevent hair tangles caused during showers using a smooth and non-sticky formula. Put two pumps of it on your wet hair, from the ends up to the roots, leave it in for as long as you want and rinse it off before shampooing.

2. Use an anti-hair loss shampoo

You know when you’re brushing your hair and you’re just amazed at how much hair can come out of your head without balding you… that is probably because of tangles too. Using a shampoo that is specifically made to tackle this issue is best. Pantene’s Anti-Hair Fall Shampoo restores life to damaged hair, protects it and makes it stronger to make sure it can withstand the heat from styling tools. Oh, and it combats hair loss caused by breakage and styling damage to give your hair a healthy and shiny look after every wash.

3. Protecting your hair starts with choosing the best conditioner for silky hair

Hair styling and exposure to heat on a daily basis can damage your hair and make it prone to falling because of breakages. To avoid this, use a conditioner that is as effective as a mask to restore life in your healthy hair, and protect it from damage. This will make sure your hair is strong and healthy enough to withstand styling damage. The Pantene Pro-V-Anti-Hair Fall Conditioner does exactly that, it strengthens your hair with an anti-hair fall formula and ensures your hair is silky smooth and shiny.

4. Choose a hairbrush suitable for your hair

The most important things to consider when buying a hairbrush: the size of the brush, the shape of its bristle and the material it’s made of. The wrong brush could lead to brittle hair and more hair fall.

To get rid of knots, use a comb with wide bristles made of wood. If you have curly hair we recommend a comb with soft nylon bristles, this works to protect thick or weak hair from breakage.

If you have thick hair, we recommend a brush with soft and spaced bristles, so that your hair doesn’t get stuck within the brush. For thinner hair, a wooden comb with spaced teeth or rubber would work better because of its flexibility.

5. Do not comb your hair starting from the roots!

Start by combing the ends from the edges where the knots are spread and dividing the strands of your hair, then comb it from half of it down and finally comb it completely. Make sure brush your hair softly to make sure it doesn’t break. We also recommend using your fingers to get rid of tangles in the morning rather than a hairbrush.

6. Style your hair in a way that avoids tangles

Hairstyles play an important role in our daily looks, braiding your hair tightly or putting it in a tight bun or ponytail can worsen hair loss from the front because of pressure, preventing nutrients and blood from reaching the follicles of your hair and inducing hair fall. It is best to style your hair in a way that gives it the freedom to move. And most importantly untie your hair before you go to bed so it can breathe and not get tangled.
