Forget what you’ve been told about hair health as one rule for all is not correct when it comes to achieving lush and glossy locks, Rossano Ferretti says.
The beauty industry’s leading name in hair care, who has cut and coloured hair belonging to the likes of Kate Middleton, Lady Gaga and Kate Moss, has shared with Cosmo ME how to get the healthiest hair of your life and how often you *really* should be getting your hair cut.
Known for his invisible haircut method, which is all about hairdressers enhancing the individual beauty of every client, customising the haircut according to their hair type and the characteristics of each individual person, the famous hair expert, who has 20 internationally acclaimed hair spas across the globe including Dubai, has told us his top tips for great hair — including what to include in your diet and why you shouldn’t be following #hairtok trends.
When it comes to how often you should let a professional take to your hair with scissors, Rossano says: “Short hair every 7-8 weeks and long hair 12-15 weeks. I would say for long hair, 4 times a year and short hair, 6 times a year.”
Explaining how clients can be misguided about hair trims, he adds: “Trimming the length isn’t what makes the hair healthy, it’s the hair body, this needs good health as the hair grows from there.
“I like and adore long hair, but you need to look after it and need a regime, not just a good shampoo and conditioner. You need a pre-shampoo, a shampoo for your hair type, a conditioner for your hair type, a mask for your hair type, oil and serum. Protect your hair when you go in the sun, water, pool, or skiing – it’s important. You protect your face every morning, if you go to the bathroom of every woman in the world you will find 45 skincare products and only two for hair – that’s the problem.”
Wondering what diet is best for hair health? Rossano says to eat like you live in the Med.
“Everybody should be taking as many vegetables as possible, I’m not saying vegetarian or vegan, eat proportionally”, he says.
His top tip is to drink a lot of water, especially hot water and to add herbs such as fennel, mint or even organic lemon and ginger. He says: “That’s the only way you can be healthy, live a long-term life and have proper, beautiful hair.”
He also encourages his clients to do head massages as it “is a fantastic thing to do for blood circulation, for the food you give your hair.”
Rossano adds that the most important thing to remember when looking after your hair is to embrace your uniqueness and not to be concerned with following trends.
The hair expert shares: “Avoid trying to change your hair – it won’t ever happen – every time you do you destroy your hair, read every ingredient in the products you are buying and be conscious of your personality.”
And when it comes to Hairtok… the celeb stylist warns: “The generalisation of things scares me, there’s not one rule for everyone.”
