When I showed this video to my colleague on the way into the office her response was; “That’s Adele?” Which were the singer’s own sentiments exactly. The video I speak of was a fan filmed clip going viral from one of the superstar’s Vegas residency shows.
For years now there’s been talk around the toxicity and impact of filters on apps like Instagram and TikTok. They’ve evolved from that classic 2016 licking dog, to lifelike, airbrush edits that warp and distort facial features to match popular beauty standards and common surgery; thinner nose, plumper lips, bigger eyes, sharper cheekbones.
Someone you can always count on to tell it like it is… is Adele. Which is exactly what she did when a fan was using such a filter on her own face, and Adele’s.

In the clip, she steps in to engage with the filming fan’s selfie camera before the shock of what she sees is written allover her ever-expressive face; “Is that a filter on there? Oh my God, what have you done to my face?”
She’s not unkind but doesn’t mince her words, saying; ” Woah, girl get that filter off my face, that’s so weird.”
In classic Adele style her firm reprimand was followed with some caring and down right motherly words; “What’s your name? Why you having filters like that, we don’t look like that Darling.” — She’s a blunt mum ok, like the one’s that tell you you look like a Dorito when you’re trying to leave the house orange.
