As Summer draws to a close and the cooler days approach (YAY!) it’s time to switch it up. Yes, that’s right, it’s time for a new-season refresh – but we’re not just taking about your wardrobe (don’t get us wrong we are feverish in our anticipation to roll out layer-heavy lewks) but your head-to-toe seasonal-style refresh needn’t and shouldn’t end (as the name suggests) end at your neck. It’s time to give your do a little transitional TLC, too.
Luckily for you, Cosmo sat down with the region’s most stylish stylist and reigning balayage queen, Julie Signore of Rossano Ferretti Salon, Jumierah, to get a heads-up (if you’ll excuse the pun) on how to keep your crowning glory bangs-on trend this winter.
Julie is a Frenchie from Paris (need we even say more??); she was born into the hair game. “I still remember the smell of product when I walked into my auntie’s salon as a child.” Julie spent six years in Paris before completing her training in London and ending up here, in Dubai.
We obviously had to ask Julie what the word balyage (either you’ve heard of it, you’re sick of hearing, or you’ve been living under a rock for the past year) is, and this is what she said, “In essence, a balayage is just a way to achieve a really natural, sun-kissed effect,” and thankfully that isn’t the most difficult thing to do in this region.
“The reason this style is so addictive and has therefore remained so successful is because of how long lasting and effortless the results are – my clients only need to come back for top-ups from anywhere between three-months to in some cases a whole year,” she added.
In Julie’s words, “anyone!” can get balayage. She says “the key is making sure your stylist assesses your hair fully.” She added; “When it comes to adjusting your balayage according to the season we can look at warming up the tones – generally we tend to go lighter in summer and warmer in winter, but both looks are really easy to achieve with very little damage.”
For the hairstyles that are coming in hot, according to the hair doctire, “there’s a real retro theme starting to come in for winter, including a real focus on shorter bob styles and pixie cuts. Long curly hair is reigning supreme also, so if you have the curls, embrace them. I’m loving a center-parted slick ponytail, statement braids and also super-fun hair accessories, like bows, headscarves and ribbons. Play with it!”
“I always recommend Olaplex number three, to really help us keep the strength of the hair intact and nourish the hair fibres.” She suggested when we asked how how we can keep our hair healthy in this relentless Middle Eastern heat. She recommended the Keraste discipline range. “It’s amazing, and keeps your hair blow-dry proof while eliminating any fizziness,” she added that the Braé range (which comes all the way from Brazil) as one of the absolute best. It gives hair a long-lasting straightness, while keeping it super shiny, also.
