1. Know your hair type

This is so important. Stop copying what works for others and figure out what your hair likes. We all have different types of curls. Get to know yours then you will be able to understand what products work best for you. This will also help you gain styling tips that won’t rip your hair out. Find out your hair type here.

2. Use the right products

So I am a 4a and these products work perfectly for me. When it’s not hair wash day, my routine simply involve dampening my hair a bit with water, then I apply a little of moisturizer. You can use a leave-in conditioner or hair oil (coconut oil or shea butter are great).

Cantu products, you can also order for Dhs79.78 from amazon

Shea Moisture products, You also can order for Dhs189 in amazon

Black castrol oil, Dhs204 from amazon

You can also check out Pantene and Sunsilk  in the curly hair products category.

FYI you need to avoid products with ingredients that will damage your hair like sulphates, silicones, dry alcohol etc. Check out a more detailed list here:

For curly hair routines, I love these Youtubers. From wash and goes to moisturizing when you are in day 3 of your curls, these are must see videos:

3. Avoid heat as much as possible

I know straighten hair is easier to manage, plus sometimes you just want to off your length. YAS! You can use heat once in a while, but I won’t recommend it on a daily basis. If you want to stretch out your curls, here is an amazing trick I learnt that is completely heatless.

For straightened hair, check out this awesome video. This amazing beauty got her hair completely straight with zero heat. How cool is that!

4. Don’t comb your hair while dry

If you don’t want to go bold, then at all cost don’t comb your hair while dry! I learnt this the hard way. Simply moisturize your hair with water/products then finger detangle before going in with a brush or comb (use a wide tooth comb). Start from the bottom and work your way up. This is what happens when you comb your hair dry:

5. Rock protective styles

These will save you so much headache and will make you look like a different person every week (dependent of your choice of style). Here are some of my fav protective styles.

Good luck!
