Kim Kardashian On Why She Is Over The Highlighter Trend

All of my fellow Instagram fans will have an opinion on Kim Kardashian West’s new grid aesthetic. I’m sure all of you ’00s Tumblr loving kids will love it (especially Brooklyn Beckham), but if you’re a ’90s kid like me I’m sure you can’t wait for the day we get to see Kimmy in full HD again.

But ever since she rocked up to the Balenciaga show in October sans makeup, we’ve noticed Kimmy has been wearing less and less of the stuff. While we love our makeup and Kim’s full glam look, we are seriously digging her new natural vibes. I mean, when your face looks like this, who needs foundation?

And in her latest makeup tutorial with her BFF and makeup artist, Mario Dedivanovic, Kim explained why she’s made the change.

“Sometimes I look at our show and I’ll see all of the highlighter we would use, like so much highlighter, like caked on our face, it looks crazy. So I just want like a natural way to look like you glow and still have the highlighter but just not caked on.”

2016 was the year of crazy highlighters and that shows no sign of slowing down in 2017, what with Cover FX’s holographic highlighting drops and Becca’s new Shimmering Skin Perfector in Prismatic Amethyst. As much as we love our shimmer, we can’t help but relate to Kimmy.

But don’t worry, Kimmy isn’t giving up the highlighter life completely, she’s just using less of the stuff. For the tutorial Mario used Laura Mercier’s Face Illuminator in ‘Seduction’, which he explained gives a “soft, blown out” look as it has a sheer finish.

The finished look is seriously beautiful and don’t worry if you don’t have a subscription to Kim’s website, we made a note of all the products Mario used. I know, I know, we’re too good to you.
