Wouldn’t it be great if your make-up brushes could clean themselves? Annoying as the entire process is, it can be quick, easy and painless. Let’s face it,  whether you like it or not, it’s got to be done; dirty make-up brushes are the fastest way to transfer bacteria onto your skin and can cause horrid breakouts. Just a few minutes a week will leave your skin and brushes silky smooth and fabulous. Here’s how some of the world’s most famous make-up artists clean theirs:

1. Mario Dedivanovic

Mario is one of the biggest names in beauty today and is the reason why Kim K’s make-up is always on point. His make-up brush cleaning regime is super simple: Johnson’s baby shampoo and tea tree oil — a simple combination that does wonders. The baby shampoo cleanses and softens the bristles, while the tee-tree oil acts as an anti-bacterial. See, it doesn’t have to be complicated for it to be effective!

2. Huda Kattan

There’s a reason why Huda is a mega beauty mogul and the most powerful beauty influencer in the world. She has fabulous DIY solutions to any make-up woe and cleaning your brushes is no different. By using a Sigma brush cleaning mat and Sephora solid brush cleaner we’re all about her solution to removing heavy make-up residue.

3. Zoe Sugg

This British beauty is a makeup-minimalist and likes applying make-up with brushes instead of sponges. She’s all about the anti-bacterial properties of Dove handwash when it comes to keeping her brushes squeaky clean.

Step 1: Squirt a pump of hand-wash directly on the damp make-up brush

4. Fraya

Fraya’s awesome beauty tutorials are super easy to re-create and perfect for even beauty novices to pick up. We’re loving the way she cleans her with a BrushPro makeup brush cleaner and dryer.

5. Kaushal

YouTube beauty guru, Kaushal, has just the trick for your weekly brush bath — a little  brush cleaner, hand-wash and olive oil.

Cosmo’s tips:

1. Always run your brushes under lukewarm water.

2. While rinsing the brushes, focus on the bristles more than the part where the head meets the handle as it might wear-out the glue over-time.

3. Swirl the brush bristles on a flat surface, a mat or even the palm of your hands.

4. Clean your brushes every week if you wear heavy make-up, and every two weeks if you wear light make-up.

5.  Let the brushes dry by laying them out on a towel.

Follow these steps and you’re guaranteed to have fresh and glowing skin!
