Summer is here and temperatures are on the rise. Long, lush mermaid hair might be an Insta staple this summer, but let’s be honest girl – It’s.too.hot.
Time to say goodbye to the sweaty mess of flowing, long hair in the summer and opt for a more practical style. Cosmo’s got some super cute, fun up-dos that will carry you from day to night, without breaking a sweat.
Follow this easy guide for six ‘cool’ (pun intended), celeb-worthy dos:
1. Slick Back Top-Knot
Kate Bosworth’s simple and chic style will stay put all day and is perf for any occasion!
Difficulty: 2/5
How to: Pull back your hair in a tidy pony tail and secure with a non-slip elastic. Then pull your hair through a hair donut and wrap the hair around it. Make sure the donut doesn’t peep through and secure with hair pins.
Cosmo’s Tip: To ensure your hair stays smooth all day long use a hair mask as gel substitute. Not only will it keep your stray hairs in check, but it will also offer all-day intense moisture treatment.
We suggest the TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Deep Smoothing Mask, Dhs27.

2. Crown Braid
Crown yourself queen of the summer with this gorge up-do. Lily Aldrige opted for dramatic lashes and minimal make up to keep the focus on her hair.
Difficulty: 5/5
How to: First, brush all your hair down so it’s splayed around your head like an umbrella. Then, start braiding under your left ear and slowly work around your hair line. This can be tricky and might take you a few tries to master. Tie the end of the braid with a clear elastic and hide the remaining braid in the ‘crown’ with hair pins. Loosen up the braid for a more voluminous finish.
Cosmo’s tip: Use a toothbrush to smooth out the braid and finish off with a shine serum.

3. Loose Lower Bun
This effortless feminine do is THE summer trend this year! Since Megan Markle wore this look to her royal wedding it’s been spreading like a wildfire. Not surprising at all as it’s easy, fun and royalty approved. We absolutely love Margot Robbie’s take on it.
Difficulty: 1/5
How to: This style is all about texture. Loose curls give you the necessary volume so it won’t look flat. First, curl your hair with a wide barrel curling wand. Then, take a golf ball sized spray of volumising mousse and scrunch it in your curls to make sure they don’t lose shape throughout the day. We suggest a mousse for maximum hold and definition. Now, gather your hair at the nape of your neck and twirl it to an artsy bun. Secure with bobby pins and done!
Cosmo’s Tip: For an edgier look, like Margot Robbie is rocking it, you can loosen some face-framing wisps around your face. You can also tug at a few strands to give it an undone feel. Or opt for a more dressy option by adding some hair bling!

4. Mohawk Buns
Whether you’re going to a concert or just rocking life, this up-do is a definite eye catcher! Do it like Rita Ora and embrace your wild side like she does with this faux mohawk.
Difficulty: 4/5
How to: Use a comb to section your hair into four horizontal parts. Start from the top and twist your hair into crazy cool lil’ towers, make sure you spare out the tips to prevent breakage. Secure it with an elastic and as many hair pins as needed. After every section is in a twisty bun, secure it all with a healthy dosage of hairspray. We suggest using a good and flexible hair spray for extra shine and hold. Et voila you’re next concert look is done!
Cosmo Tip: You can also vary the number of buns, to tone it down a bit. Two stacked buns is a good way to slowly start, if this look is a bit too crazy bold for you.

5. Sleek Knot
Survive outdoor summer weddings with this elegant look like Brie Larson. This hair-do will guaranteed tie together your look, ‘knot’ kidding.
Difficulty: 5/5
How to: Begin with a centre part so you have an even hair distribution, this is important to keep the look balanced. Now you gather your hair at the nape of your neck, but spare two front sections, with the lower part tucked into a ‘banana bun’ and secured with hair pins. Now, take the two remaining front streaks and twist them back, where you tie them together into a loose knot. This up-do may look simple but it takes practice and patience, or a good friend to help you out.
Cosmo’s Tip: If the banana bun is a bit intimidating, you can also make this into a half up-do.

6. Faux Fringe Bun
The fringe is back! But not everyone wants the commitment that comes with it — faux bangs. Copy Hailey Baldwin’s do for a style switch-up that doesn’t require a chop.
Difficulty: 2/5
How to: First, gather your mane up into a high pony, pull out a chunk of hair in the front of the tail. Then pull it forward over your forehead and secure the section with bobby pins. You will now have a little bun at the top of your head. Section the remaining hair in half and twist the pieces around your bun, forming a big bun, and secure. Last step: Apply a heat protecting and shine spray on your ‘fringe’ to protect your tips from damage, we suggest TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Heat Protection Shine Spray. Then use a flat iron and smooth out your fringe to give it a more natural look.
Cosmo’s Tip: If you have shorter hair and it’s not long enough to recreate this style, we suggest a cute pair of clip in bangs.
