Lebanese dance crew Mayyas has taken the internet (and America’s Got Talent) by storm. So much so that even Simon Cowell didn’t have anything negative to say. And that says a lot (iykyk.) We’ll break it down for you.

After previously winning Arabs Got Talent in 2019, scoring themselves a new car and a 200,000 Saudi riyal ($53,333) cash prize, it’s no surprise that this dancing girl group are pros. That same year they even participated in Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions. Mayyas are made up of 26 young women from Lebanon, and alongside their founder Nadim Cherfan, they bring hypnotic never-seen-before choreography.

It even earned them a Golden Buzzer on America’s Got Talent from Sofia Vergara.

The group of dancers blew the judges, Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel, and Sofia Vergara, away. “Lebanon is a very beautiful country, but we live a daily struggle,” they had told the Modern Family actress before they began their audition. “Unfortunately, being a dancer as a female Arab is not fully supported yet,” one of the girls expressed.

Mayyas’ goal was to be on the “biggest stage in the world,” and America’s Got Talent was their “only chance to prove to the world what Arab women can do, the art we can create, the fights we fight”.

What did the Golden Buzzer mean for Mayyas?

You won’t believe it but, it meant that they’ll move *straight* to the live shows. Well done to this inspiring and exceptional team (!!) We love nothing more than Arab women making us proud 👏🏼
