The #FreeBritney era is over and the #FreedBritney era has begun.

On Friday, the singer won her legal battle to end the conservatorship that’s controlled her life for the last 13 years when Los Angeles judge Brenda Penny ruled in her favor, ending the conservatorship effective immediately, according to the New York Times.

The 39-year-old singer had been under the conservatorship since 2008, with her father, Jamie Spears, in charge of her health and financial decisions for most of that time (he was removed from the role in September). Earlier this year, Britney spoke out in court about the conservatorship, which she described as “abusive,” and pleaded with Judge Penny to end the arrangement.

“Basically, this conservatorship is doing me way more harm than good,” Britney explained (per CNN) during a 23-minute speech in June that included, among other things, claims that her conservators wouldn’t allow her to remove her IUD, in spite of her desire to have more children. “I deserve to have a life. I’ve worked my whole life. I deserve to have a two to three-year break and just you know, do what I want to do.”

Following Britney’s emotional speech to the court, she was granted the right to hire her own lawyer (she had been forced to use court-appointed counsel throughout most of the conservatorship) and she took steps to formally request that the conservatorship be terminated. On Friday, that work paid off.

“The conservatorship of the person and estate of Britney Jean Spears is no longer required,” Judge Penny said in a ruling that, according to the New York Times, came less than half an hour into the hearing. “The conservatorship is hereby terminated.”

Britney responded to the news on Twitter, sharing a clip of her fans celebrating the victory outside the courthouse in Los Angeles.

“Good God I love my fans so much it’s crazy !!! I think I’m gonna cry the rest of the day !!!!” she captioned the video. “Best day ever … praise the Lord … can I get an Amen ???? #FreedBritney.”
