What better way to celebrate International Women’s Month than a line-up of films shot from the fiercest female POVs. So sit back, relax and let some of the best portrayals of strong women empower and inspire.
Oceans 8 (2018)
Eight women banding together to carry out an insane heist that robs hundreds of people of millions of dollars? Yes. Please. This film is the literal definition of badass. Sandra Bullock, Awkwafina, Mindy Kaling and Rihanna (yes, Rihanna) take over a classic film and turn it on its head. Also, we STAN a diverse female cast.
Little Women (2019)
This a no-brainer. Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of the 1994 Winona Ryder classic will leave you feeling an unreal sisterly solidarity. Oh, and Emma Watson, Saoirse Ronan, Florence Pugh and Timothée Chalamet? Talk about a dream cast.
Hidden Figures (2016)
PSA: you’ll need a box of tissues for this one. This film chronicles how three AfricanAmerican female NASA employees became the mathematicians behind John Glenn’s launch into space in the 1960s, and it gets pretty emosh. Anything with ‘based off a true story’ in the blurb wins us over.
Mulan (2020)
Prepare yourselves because Disney’s live action remake of Mulan is coming out this March! The story of the legendary woman from China who disguises herself as a man to fight for her country is ICONIC, and if you’ve watched the animated 1998 film, you’ll understand why we’ll be the first in lines at Dubai’s cinemas on the 26 of this month.
A League Of Their Own (1992)
Another oldie but goodie, this 1992 film depicts a group of women (including, oh you know, only MADONNA!) form a baseball league whilst all their men have been deployed during WWII. Women? Playing sports? Who woulda thought?? “There’s no crying in baseball!” Actually, there’s a lot of crying when we watch this film.
