With the finale dropping, we thought it was finally time to detox from our Cousins Beach obsession, until the news hit: The Summer I Turned Pretty isn’t done with us. Not yet. The series that hijacked our group chats, and sparked TikTok edits by the thousands, will wrap its story with a full-on feature film. We are getting a movie. The surprise announcement landed at the series finale red carpet in Paris, and naturally, the internet lost it.

While plot details are under wraps, Jenny Han, the author of the TSIP trilogy and producer of the show, teased the movie with a promise. “There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due,” she said. What this means for us is: grab your tissues, gather your girls, because, if we know one thing, its that the drama will not tone down.

Over three seasons, we watched Isabel, better known as Belly, navigate a love triangle so intense it made Twilight’s Edward versus Jacob era look tame. Torn between Conrad, the brooding, closed-off older brother, and Jeremiah, the golden retriever-coded younger one, Belly spent her summers caught between heartbreak, beach bonfires, and far too many teary confessions. Along the way, she grew from the awkward preteen tagging along at Cousins Beach into a young woman finding her voice (and being so messy doing it).

The show became more than just a teen drama. With episodes rolling out every week, it explored the power of female friendships, the bond between mothers and daughters, and the dizzying intensity of first (and second) love. At its peak, Season Three pulled in 25 million viewers in just seven days.

“The Summer I Turned Pretty has struck a chord with audiences everywhere, creating moments of joy, nostalgia, and connection that have made it a global sensation,” said Courtenay Valenti, head of film at Amazon MGM Studios.

The love triangle that took over our screens is heading for one taking its last bow. Team Conrad, Team Jeremiah, or Team Belly, you already know we’ll be watching.

Until then catch up on season 1 and season 2 here.
