If there’s one thing Instagram users won’t stand for, it’s someone taking away their memes. And, uh, it actually happened when Instagram’s Explore page replaced all the cute puppy vids and funny viral pictures for beautiful lifestyle shots.

JUST. NO.

While there’s a time and place for perfectly styled and edited pictures, sometimes we just want to watch a puppy bathing in a sink. So when selected users were given the Explore update full of aesthetically pleasing photos, they did what any social media-lover would do…they went straight to twitter to complain.

The changes were announced by Instagram earlier this month, when they said in a statement:

“Explore is still personalised for you, but the content is now organised into topic channels so you can browse across your interests and go deeper on any area you’d like.”

The app has faced criticism since getting rid of its chronological feed in favour of an algorithm that left many feeling a little confused.

yguj

A spokesperson for Instagram told Refinery29 that the changes users noticed on their feed were the result of a bug that temporarily resulted in less personalised content for a small number of users.

While the new update can’t be reversed for those who already have it, tapping the three dots in the corner and clicking “see fewer posts like this” will help re-order your preferences, meaning hopefully those dancing dog videos won’t be lost forever.

Phew!
