Gigi Hadid took some time out of her New York Fashion Week schedule to tweet at those who say she looks “too skinny” on the runway this year. Hadid revealed that her apparent weight loss is a result of receiving treatment for Hashimoto’s disease, an autoimmune disorder that attacks the thyroid. She explained that her symptoms, which are typical of the disease, included “extreme fatigue, metabolism issues… inflammation & water retention.”
For those of you so determined to come up w why my body has changed over the years, you may not know that when I started @ 17 I was not yet diagnosed w/Hashimoto’s disease; those of u who called me “too big for the industry” were seeing inflammation & water retention due to that.

In her tweets Hadid mentioned that when she first started out as a model, people attacked her for being “too big for the industry” and she chalked her previous size up to having untreated Hashimoto’s. She clarified that she hasn’t been dieting and isn’t comfortable with how skinny she is now, but pushed a message asking people to be kinder on social media.
Please, as social media users & human beings in general, learn to have more empathy for others and know that you never really know the whole story. Use your energy to lift those that you admire rather than be cruel to those u don’t.
