Trailblazer, serial entrepreneur, beauty mogul and social influencer with 1.6 million followers, the Vice President of Huda Beauty and co-founder of The Dollhouse is one of the most powerful women in the beauty world. Together with her sisters, Huda and Alya, she’s well on her way to global beauty domination. Here are three things that we learnt about Mona in this month's Cosmo Middle East cover story...

1. She still has her simple Tennessee roots

“We had a very simple upbringing in Tennessee. My father was a professor and my mother a homemaker. My parents are big believers in family values and having a stellar work ethic. Our dad actually made us feel that learning was fun and always said that we had to do something productive with our day or it was wasted. Having math quizzes and competitions was a daily, much-anticipated event in the Kattan household.”

2. She spilled all on her A-list pals

“We spent a lot of time with Jen Atkin and Eva Longoria over the summer in LA and had some surreal times with a few people, including going to karaoke with John Legend and Chrissy Teigen, which Jen organised. Jen is a gem.”

3. She got very real about her health struggles

“We all have our insecurities. From a physical standpoint, I’m very insecure about my weight. I have PCOS and my weight can fluctuate overnight. Also, I used to hate my teeth. As a child I chipped my front tooth and it was a different colour from the others. Getting veneers has been a blessing and made me so much more comfortable with myself.”

4. Her business-first ethic almost ruined her friendships

“The difficult part about running our own business is how we can never switch off for fear of being outdated... My friends kidnapped me and took me to Sri Lanka for my birthday but I was panicking because I had so much to do. It took a long time for them to get it. I thought I was losing my friends at one point but now they understand. I’m trying to make sure that I see my friends at least once a month or every other week. They are my other family, mean so much to me and have been with us since the very beginning.”
